What’s a BMI
Truckers need to be aware of their “BMI” especially if changing employers. Some employers will not hire drivers with a BMI higher than 39. Many employers are going this way. This may also become a DOT physical requirement in the near future. You might lose your job if your BMI is too high.
Now is the time to act on this. Reduce your BMI with healthy eating and exercise.
The BMI = Body Mass Index is a measure of body fat based on your height and weight.
- Underweight = 18.5 or less
- Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
- Overweight = 25–29.9
- Obesity = BMI of 30 or higher
(The person in the photo is 6ft tall, and weighs 297 pounds. His BMI is 40.3.)
Drivers who have a 30+ BMI need to get healthy now. Get your score below 30 by eating healthy foods and exercising daily. Before you know it, your BMI will lower.

When your at home, take the dog with you, and aim for a 45 minute walk.
