Two Superior-based trucking companies owned by members of the same family have combined forces.
Halvor Lines and Sue Vinje Trucking now are under the same ownership and management with Sue Vinje Trucking now operating as the Halvor Lines Refrigerated Division.
For the Vinje family, it marks a reunion of sorts.
Meanwhile, in 1998, his daughter, Sue Vinje, and her son, Ryan Fraley, formed their own company — Sue Vinje Trucking. Together, they grew the trucking service from a tanker fleet of 12 tractors to a refrigerated fleet of more than 50 tractors and 75 trailers.
While the two trucking services were separate, they worked together over the years to grow their businesses and serve customers.
When Sue Vinje retired, her son, Ryan, and brother, Jon, became the owners of her company. That led to last week’s announcement that the two businesses are now one.
“We are pleased to report that all the members of the Sue Vinje Trucking team are staying with us through the transition,” a company release said. “The combined strength of the fleets will provide us with additional opportunities to serve our customers.”
Halvor Lines, which was the larger of the two companies, is based in Superior with regional terminals in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and South Bend, Ind. With the merger, the company now has more than 425 employees, 350 tractors and 880 van, flatbed and refrigerated trailers, and serves customers in 49 states and Canada, according to the release.
